“I Like…Because” Cards

To implement this practice, we love to use the “I Like Because" Cards
Here’s how the process works:
Whenever you observe an individual say or do something positive or inspiring, you can quickly write a note on this pad that says, "I Like _(name)______Because_(reason)____" and you fill in some specific, observable quality the individual either possesses or demonstrates.
More often than not, these little messages of encouragement have a tremendously positive impact, and are treasured for years.

My father, Zig Ziglar, said encouragement is the missing ingredient in too many lives. He invented the "I Like...Because " Cards to help people know how to quickly and easily encourage others by writing a positive action, quality and/or character trait they recognized in the individual they hoped to encourage. I teach Dad's Goal Setting Program to Christian Workforce students every semester and return just prior to graduation and teach them how to use the "I Like...Because" cards by having them write cards to their classmates and read them aloud for all to hear. In many cases, the individuals have never been told what other appreciate about them. Because my students are in class for 10 weeks, they know each other very well and the exercise is a highlight they can keep and reread when they need a lift. I recommend using them at Thanksgiving, Christmas, Birthdays, or any time you see anyone, even total strangers, do anything worth commenting on.
